"nothing is happening. they've got their usual circa £40m net spend plus the £35m they didnt spend last year."

I understand why you're saying that but that isn't how a business works goose. Just because the owners didn't spend an arbitrary £35m doesn't mean it is available to spend this year.

Either Sullivan has sold some of his other investments to finance the player purchases or someone else has. The initial payments are probably around 25% of the headline transfer plus up front fees to agents.

Fabianski £7m; Yarmalenko £20m; Diopp £20m; plus two "frees" for Wilshere and Fredericks with several £m up front signing fees and £40+m for Anderson is over £100m with potentially more to come and some sales to offset but the reality is that someone is pumping at least £35-£40m by my estimation into WH to cover the cash flow alone...

Yeah. They've listened a bit.

one bumper transfer to keep MP happy and make it appear they are big spenders.............. back to £40m next summer.

Re: owners
5+ years of poor transfer and squad building cannot be wiped away in one transfer window.

Now they actually need to organise the club properly, starting with a state of the art premiership quality training ground, a proper scouting team, data analyst team and an actual long term squad building policy that doesn't involve spending loads of money on players willie nillie but spending the right money on the right players at the right time and selling players for the right money at the right time.

the youth academy also need t be looked at, I hope they have had a meeting to discuss why Burke was sold, what went wrong and why didn't he make it. Especially after looking promising in his premier league appearances under Big Sam

Re: owners
According to C&H Tripp-Smith made a £9,5m interest free loan when he joined the board not repayable until the club is sold.

That would just about cover the agents fees on the Anderson deal!

But as has been said something major is happening.

Tripp-Smith was due to quit his day job in June for new opportunities

Re: owners
There is definitely something going on Willtell

You simply do NOT change your business model on a whim

These guys in charge are old and long in the tooth, they would never adopt a policy foreign to them, invest massively to try and compete, they are always looking for the value in a deal.

Recall Sullivan's early days policy of buying cheap South American imports for peanuts to sell on at a massive inflated fee, yeah that worked !

Re: owners
So no-one else thinks that since that American Tripp Smith bought 10% of WH shares he hasn't also loaned the club a lot of cash now being spent..?

I cannot imagine that we would sign all these players and Pellegrini and then sell our best player...

Re: owners
I always had a somewhat ambivalent view of Sullivan, Gold and Brady ( the owners )

Only ever having met Brady ( she did not impress me in her role as a motivational speaker) my opinion of them is therefore based mainly on their media image, public pronouncements and actions in respect of WHUFC.

Given how they made their fortunes in businesses that promote illusion and cheap and tacky sensationalism it is hardly surprising that this has featured in the running of the club.

Whether that is worse than what had previously been the case I think not. Is the worse than it might have been under some other disastrous football owners definitely not.
Could it be better? For sure.

Has this offseason changed my views? No, but I welcome the change in approach, which might if sustained prove a game changer and an opinion changer in the long run.

I don't think I will ever be able to forgive them for the amount of time it takes to get to the toilet and back at HT.

Re: owners
No. Scum is scum.

They were finding the heat from not only fans but also TV and press last season getting a bit too hot for comfort so it's kept them in check for the time being.

They also know they would be lynched when the next accounts come out if they did not start acting in the best interests of West Ham Utd FC.

£80m is par for the course given the money they pocketed last year.

Well done...Finally...
Getting a Top Manager was the first step...then backing him with cash for Quality players...
After a series of cheap transfer seasons...I hope they have learned their lessons... as many on WHO have been saying for years...
Get Anderson...keep Arnie...and we should have a good competitive squad playing attractive football...
Looking forward to the Pellegrini season...

Re: owners
Nope. Should never be in a multi purpose arena.
The club is bigger than any individuals. The club (the fans) have lost trust and want these characters out.
The board are stuck with the club, we stuck with them.
Need things to happen like Khan offering the arena for a price the board could buy. With the arena as an asset, we may attract the right buyer who will alter things for a better matchday experience.

Nope, didnt have much choice really unless they wanted several Burnley's next season. Give em there due, impressed so far with the transfer activity, but will wait till the end of the window to see where the land lies.

Re: owners
IF we keep hold of Arnie, and get a couple of the others over the line that have been mentioned, then it's a step in the right direction and they've bought themselves some time to fix their rep.

They would have to repeat it for a couple more seasons to truly repair it though
